"Wine is sunlight, held together by water” - Galileo Galilei
The SHMS Wine Society, founded by third year students Tobias Westen, Zoltan Kecskemethy, Maté Pinter, and Akos Rabi in the Fall Semester of 2009, holds monthly sessions in due respect of this maxim.
The Society was completely organized by student initiative, and invited mature, responsible students that had completed the Wine & Bar module - 2nd, 3rd, and PGD students. Thirteen members have joined, with a equal balance of genders, and an encyclopaedia of international
cultures.
Thoughtfully prepared, calmly organized, and discreetly conducted in the Staff Breakroom of Caux-Palace, each session encourages the discovery of a certain growing region, grape varietal, or comparison. Some of the recent themes have included: Swiss Wines, Pinot Noir Comparisons, Hungarian Varietals, & Italy. With each session, the theme is furthered through a sampling of regional delectables - dried meats, cheeses, and breads, as well as fresh fruit and chocolates. It’s the best way to take your palate on a much-needed Friday night vacation!
Not only for appreciating and discussing the terroir, vineyard, production method, and location of the wine, the lively roundtable discussions of current events and future internship and career plans bring conviviality and provide opportunities for future networking.
It is the Society’s hope and mission to encourage future students of Caux to continue this new tradition, while exhibiting the maturity to faithfully remain within the school policies of responsible consumption.
